Meet Kenja
Kenja Jackson is a graduate of Mission First Supportive Housing: Edison. After years of battling addiction and unsuccessful attempts at long-term recovery, Kenja hit a crossroads realizing she needed to do better for her children.
In 2000, Kenja moved into Imani Park, one of our permanent supportive housing communities. The individualized counseling and comprehensive supports offered through our program were what helped Kenja move past her addiction and homelessness and on to independent living.
Kenja now lives with her daughters in Perth Amboy, NJ and works for New Jersey Association on Correction (NJAC) in New Brunswick, NJ, assisting individuals who were recently released from prison and those experiencing homelessness.
“I’m not struggling today. Life happens, but I am not struggling. My kids are ok. Home is my safe haven.”

Our Work in Permanent Supportive Housing
In a number of our developments throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, Mission First offers permanent supportive housing to residents. Permanent supportive housing is an intervention designed to address the needs of some of the most vulnerable populations. Individuals who have experienced homelessness, deep poverty, substance abuse issues and in some cases mental health instability are all intended to benefit from the design considerations of permanent supportive housing. Pairing affordable housing with case management and supportive services, Mission First assist residents in developing independent living and tenancy skills while connecting them to a variety of support services to ensure their successful participation in those communities. Nearly 300 residents are part of our supportive services programming. With your help, we can provide more services.
Your donation to our organization provides the needed funds to support a comprehensive continuum of services for our residents.
