by Mission First HousingDamascus, MD – Today, the development team of Mission First Housing Group and St. Anne’s Community Development LLC celebrated the Grand Opening of Cain Commons, an affordable senior community located at 25104 Ridge Road in Damascus, MD.
Dale Tibbitts, Special Assistant to County Executive March Elrich, Montgomery County, Asmara G. Habte, Deputy Director, Montgomery County Director of Housing and Community Affairs and The Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde, Episcopal Diocese of Washington joined Mission First’s Thomas Queenan and Sarah Constant and St. Anne’s Episcopal Church’s Reverend Jonathan David Musser, as well as project funders, community members and new residents of Cain Commons, to celebrate the opening of this new community asset.
Mission First, in partnership with St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, developed Cain Commons – an approximately 73,000 square feet, four-story housing apartment building containing 76 units including a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units targeting seniors earning 30%-70% of Area Median Income. Community areas available to all residents include a lobby, community and sitting room, fitness room, library/meeting room, bike storage and property management office suite.
“We are pleased to bring this valuable community asset to Montgomery County seniors, supporting efforts to allow residents to age-in-place,” said Thomas Queenan, Chief Executive Office for Mission First Housing Group. “Our partnership with St. Anne’s also fosters our work in Faith-based development furthering our mission to serve people and communities in need.”
Over the past 20 years, Mission First Housing Group has developed nearly 1,000 affordable apartments throughout the Mid-Atlantic region in partnership with faith-based community organizations to meet their goals to support congregations and the surrounding community. Often these partnerships focus on developing safe and affordable housing for special populations such as seniors like Cain Commons.
The building complies with National Green Building Standards, with green assets such as wood frame construction, and the exterior masonry veneer with fiber cement siding panels with high performance TPO roofing.
The project was financed through a combination of 4% Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits, tax exempt financing issued by the State of Maryland Community Development Administration, a HOME loan from Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs, and Rental Housing Works funding from the State of Maryland.
Cain Commons is accepting residents now! More information at www.caincommons.com, or contact us for a tour at (240) 358-5060 or leasing@caincommons.com.
