ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today joined the Mission First Housing Group
, Autism Society of Maryland, Howard County Housing Commission, fellow elected officials, and community members to officially open the transformational Patuxent Commons. Located at 6441 Freetown Road in Columbia, this 76-unit apartment community is designed to address housing instability among low-income adults with disabilities, older adults, and younger adults/families in Howard County. Photos from the event can be found on Howard County Government’s Flickr website.
Developed by 501(c)(3) nonprofit developer Mission First Housing Group and based on an intergenerational housing concept created by the nonprofit Autism Society of Maryland, Patuxent Commons will bridge connections across generations and abilities, creating an inclusive community where residents with disabilities can live as independently as possible. Nineteen of Patuxent Commons’ 76 units are being rented to low-income residents with disabilities, while the remaining units are rented to older adults (30 units) and individuals and families (27 units).
